Tanka tuesday

24 Seasons Syllabic Poetry challenge for #TankaTuesday!

poem-1 and the kigo phrase is (early spring)

Beneath spring’s soft light,

Early blooms begin to rise,

Nature stirs awake,

With each petal, life renewed,

In early spring’s embrace.

poem-2 and kigo phrase is
( lingering snow)

Snow’s lingering thaw,

Resolves not just icy drifts,

But conflicts that freeze,

In spring’s warmth, healing begins,

Hearts embrace peace, renewed.

poem-3 and kigo phrase is (leap day)

Leap year grants a chance,

An extra day for new starts,

Like leap day babies,

Celebrating their birth,

Twice the opportunity.

A Vampire’s Tale

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a monochrome photo of a man wearing a suit and a hat, standing at the edge of a small stone bridge. The man is facing away from us. There is a full moon visible in the background and some trees. The whole scene is surrounded by fog

In a misty forest, under the moon’s glow, Alexander, a noble vampire, carried centuries but held a spark of humanity. He once loved Isabella, a mortal whose beauty lit his world, their bond a light in his dark life.

But as fate would have it, their time together was cruelly cut short, torn apart by the immutable laws of mortality. Isabella had been taken from him, leaving Alexander to wander the world alone, his heart forever yearning for the touch of her hand and the warmth of her smile.

Yet, on this particular night, as the moon hung low in the sky, Alexander felt a stirring in his soul. It was as if Isabella’s spirit was calling out to him, guiding him to the place where they had once found solace in each other’s arms.
Driven by an unexplainable force, Alexander donned his finest attire, each step through the forest flooding him with memories of Isabella until he reached the small stone bridge, where he stood bathed in the moon’s ethereal light, feeling her presence as if her spirit intertwined with his own.

In that moment, Alexander made a solemn vow to honor Isabella’s memory for all eternity. Though he was condemned to walk the night alone, his heart would forever belong to her, beating with a love that transcended even death itself.

And so, beneath the watchful gaze of the moon, Alexander stood as a testament to the enduring power of love – a love that could withstand the ravages of time and conquer even the darkest of nights. With Isabella’s memory as his guiding light, Alexander would wander the earth until the end of days, his love for her burning eternal in the depths of his immortal soul.

Balancing Family Needs and Self-Care in the Next Six Months

Daily writing prompt
What is the biggest challenge you will face in the next six months?

As a mom, the biggest challenge I anticipate facing in the next six months is finding the balance between managing my family’s needs and taking care of myself. With the demands of parenting, household responsibilities, and possibly work commitments, it’s easy to put my own well-being on the back burner. However, prioritizing self-care is crucial for my mental and physical health, allowing me to be present and effective in caring for my family. Finding time for self-care amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life will be my ongoing challenge, but I’m committed to making it a priority for the benefit of both myself and my loved ones.

Here are this week’s questions and you can join in by clicking here

1. What do you normally have for breakfast?

For breakfast, I typically have something quick and easy, like a cup of coffee or a croissant. With the hustle and bustle of getting my child ready for school and my husband off to work, along with managing a toddler who often interrupts mealtime, I find it challenging to sit down for a full breakfast. So, these simple options help me kickstart my day without adding too much to my morning routine.

2.  Do you prefer to cook using gas or electricity?

When it comes to cooking, I like to have the best of both worlds by using gas and electricity. It’s almost like having a little dance in the kitchen with different partners! For things like cooking rice, I trust my reliable electric stove to give me that consistent, fluffy texture every time. But when it’s time to whip up a stir-fry or simmer a hearty stew, there’s just something about the immediate response and even heat of a gas stove that makes me feel like a culinary maestro. It’s all about finding that perfect balance to ensure each dish comes out just right.
3.  When you are working on your computer/laptop/tablet/mobile device etc, do you listen to music or have something else on in the background?

When I’m working on my computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile device, I don’t listen to music or have anything else on in the background. Whether I’m cooking, reading, or working on my laptop, I never use any background music because my kids are always making noise, talking, or shouting. I find it quite distracting to have additional noise in the background. However, when I feel like I need some relaxation time, I’ll start up Spotify and listen to music while dancing with my kids.
4. Do you hang pictures on your walls, or prefer to have personal photographs on shelves?

Yes, I have many pictures and artworks hanging on the walls throughout my house. Additionally, I prefer to display personal photographs on shelves, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. One corner of our home is dedicated to a gallery of our ancestors, skillfully arranged by my father-in-law, which adds a charming touch. Moreover, our hall area is adorned with numerous paintings, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of our living space.

This picture is the centerpiece of our drawing room.

Gratitude:

Grateful for the beautiful memories captured in our family gallery, each picture a reminder of love and connection. Thankful for the cozy ambiance of our home, adorned with art and stories that make every corner feel alive.

What do you see # 226- February 19, 2024

Does this picture inspire you to write something?

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a deep blue sky and mountains in the distance. The ground is covered by snow and a single track of footprints is seen headed towards the mountains.

Upon the winding path, I roam alone,

Amidst uncertainty, my spirit’s tone.

Opportunities beckon, stars aglow,

Yet forward I press, with courage to show.

In solitude’s embrace, I find my way,

Each step a story, come what may.

With hope as my guide, and dreams in sight,

I journey forth, through day and night.

Di is our host and Here are this week’s questions

1.  When was the last time you bought a new item of clothing?

Ah, just recently, my cousin tied the knot, and I couldn’t resist getting myself a stunning traditional wedding dress complete with a beautiful khada dupatta. It instantly stole the spotlight in my collection of traditional wear, adding a touch of elegance and charm. I’m absolutely smitten with it!

2.  When shopping for clothes, do you like to colour co-ordinate several purchases or buy one thing at a time?

When it comes to shopping for clothes, I’m all about the experience of color-coordinating several purchases! Whenever I hit the stores, it’s never a solo mission; my mom, cousins, or even my husband always tag along, turning it into a delightful and lively affair. They have this knack for turning shopping into an adventure, where every piece is carefully chosen to complement each other and my existing wardrobe.

We make a day out of it, dedicating one day to clothing, another to shoes, and yet another to accessories. It’s like piecing together a puzzle where every element fits just right. Plus, we don’t just coordinate with our outfits, but with each other too, creating this beautiful harmony of style within the family.

So, whether it’s finding the perfect top today or the ideal pair of shoes tomorrow, every step of the journey is filled with excitement and shared laughter. It’s not just about the clothes; it’s about the memories we create along the way.

3.  Do you prefer sweat shirts, cardigans or jumpers?

I tend to lean towards the cozy comfort of sweatshirts. There’s just something about slipping into a soft, fleece-lined sweatshirt that feels like a warm hug on a chilly day. Plus, they’re so versatile – perfect for lounging around the house or running errands in casual style. Sweatshirts have this effortless vibe that I love, and they’re easy to layer with a jacket or coat when needed. So, when it comes to staying snug and stylish, you’ll often find me reaching for a trusty sweatshirt.

4.  Do you wear sandals in the Summer?

Before becoming a parent, I loved rocking sandals during the summer months. But now, with my little ones keeping me on my toes, comfort is key. You’ll often find me in comfy shoes or flip-flops, ready to tackle the day’s adventures with ease.

Gratitude:Grateful every day for the beautiful chaos and boundless love that comes with parenthood.

Homebound Hearts

On grandma’s terrace, my daughter and I soaked in the evening sun. “Mamma, where’s the sun?” she asked, her eyes wide. I pointed, “See that orange glow?” I said, feeling her wonder. Above us, birds danced in the sky. “What’s that, Mamma?” she asked, amazed. “They’re going home,” I explained. Watching together, I felt a rush of love for my curious girl.

Gently, I pointed towards the orange sundown, reminiscent of another evening when we watched the sun bid farewell. As we admired the sunset, a familiar sight unfolded above us – a murmuration of birds painting the sky with their graceful flight. “They’re murmuring, just like before,” I explained, marveling at the timeless beauty of nature’s dance.

Watching her gaze fixed on the avian ballet, I felt a sense of déjà vu, as if reliving a cherished memory from our past.

As the murmuration faded into the twilight, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the precious moments we’ve shared together. Those memories, etched in our hearts, serve as guiding lights on our journey home, reminding us of the love and peace we carry within us, wherever life may lead us.

I glanced at my daughter, her eyes wide with wonder. “Mamma,” she chirped, her voice filled with curiosity, “do birds always know where their home is?”

I knelt down to her level, smiling at her innocence. “Yes, darling,” I replied, brushing a strand of hair from her face, “just like how you always know where your cozy bed is.”

She nodded, her little face lit up with understanding. “So, no matter where we go, we’ll always find our way home?”

di is our host and Here are this week’s mixed bag of questions:

1.  What is the first thing you think of when you hear the word “cuddly”?

When I hear the word “cuddly,” I immediately think of the warmth and comfort of being in my kids’ arms. Their soft skin when they sleep makes me cherish cuddling them even more.
2.  Would you like to own an exotic pet?  If so, what?

I don’t really have a love for pets, but we do have a cat. As for exotic pets, they are very challenging to handle, and their care requirements are much greater than those of typical pets.
3.  If you were suddenly gifted £1000/$1000, what would you do with it?

If I were to receive a sudden windfall of £1000/$1000, I’d embrace it as an opportunity to blend indulgence with prudence. Firstly, I’d treat myself to a leisurely shopping spree, picking up a few items that have been lingering on my wishlist, perhaps even splurging a bit on something special. Then, I’d plan a rejuvenating vacation, maybe a cozy retreat in the mountains or a sunny beach getaway, where I can relax, recharge, and create lasting memories with loved ones. Lastly, I’d set aside a small portion for a fixed deposit, not only as a responsible step toward financial security but also as a gesture of hope for the future, knowing that I’m taking care of myself while still embracing life’s pleasures.
4.  Do you wear slippers at home?

Yes, I do wear slippers at home. Our tiles are much colder these days, and I have a habit of wearing slippers. I have a pair that I use in my home, and whenever I am out, I usually wear boots or sandals, depending on my mood and the situation.

Gratitude:
Grateful for the ups that lift me and the downs that teach me, shaping my journey with invaluable lessons.
